The 911R project was inspired by Porsche striving to maximize performance through any means. Besides horsepower and suspension upgrades, simply removing weight from the car yielded much more responsive handling and improved performance. The technicians at Porsche were awarded a bottle of champagne for every kilogram shaved the already light 911.

Note that 1965-1968 models have a smaller tail lamp housing opening on the rear quarter panels than 1969-89. As a result of this, you can elect to cut the inner framework and bucket off the panel if you wish to fit these . Porsche did exactly that on the original R to save weight.
